Is Oklahoma still an energy state? And to what degree?

I have been working on a project with one of our doctoral students (Dale Martinez) at OSU to better understand the impact the current energy surge is having on Oklahoma and the other state economies.   I did not  live in Oklahoma during ‘the’ oil boom (I’m a Georgia transplant) but all you have to do is look at the data to get a feel for the type of increadible stimulus high energy prices can transmit through the state economy.   Read the rest of this entry »

Hello, my name is Mark Snead and I would like to welcome you to my blog on the Oklahoma economy.   I’m a research economist at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and specialize in regional economic modeling and forecasting. 

The health and vitality of the state economy is a topic of great interest to me and one that occupies the majority of my working hours.   I hope to use this blog to better share my research on the Oklahoma economy and to let you in on the lunchtime discussions and debates we have while trying to understand the forces driving the state economy.  In short, I want to share the types of information that would not normally appear in our mainstream forecast releases and research reports but that is vital to understanding short- and long-term trends in the state economy.  Read the rest of this entry »
